What Agricultural Equipment Demands from Rubber Components

1 What rubber compound is recommended for outdoor agricultural machinery?

EPDM is the standard compound for rubber components on agricultural machinery exposed to outdoor conditions — UV radiation, ozone, rain, and temperature cycling. EPDM resists these failure mechanisms over the machine's working life without cracking or hardening. NBR is specified for positions in contact with hydraulic oil or fuel. Neoprene is available where combined weather and oil resistance is required.

2 What are rubber screen balls used for in grain handling?

Rubber screen balls are used in vibrating screen machines to prevent mesh blinding — the blocking of screen apertures by particles that stick in or across the mesh openings. The balls bounce against the underside of the screen mesh during operation, dislodging lodged particles and maintaining screening throughput. In grain cleaning and seed sorting machines, they keep cleaning screens operating at full efficiency. Available in various diameters to match the screen mesh specification.

3 Can you supply PU (polyurethane) components for abrasive grain handling?

Yes. Polyurethane typically provides 3–5x better abrasion life than natural or SBR rubber in these environments. 4 What rubber hoses are suitable for crop sprayer systems?

Crop sprayer hoses must be compatible with the agrochemicals being applied — pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and liquid fertilisers vary considerably in chemical aggressiveness. EPDM has good general resistance to many water-based spray solutions. NBR is more appropriate for oil-based formulations. For specific agrochemicals, we require the product name or active ingredient to confirm compound compatibility.

5 Do you supply hydraulic hoses for agricultural equipment?

6 What is the difference between rubber and PU for agricultural wear applications?

Standard rubber compounds (NR, SBR, EPDM) offer good abrasion resistance in low-intensity wear environments. Polyurethane (PU) significantly outperforms them in high-intensity abrasion — grain conveying, soil contact, and aggregate handling — where the abrasive action is continuous and the particle hardness is high. The trade-off is that PU has lower resilience at low temperatures and reduced flexibility at very high deflection. Our engineers specify the correct material based on the abrasion environment, temperature range, and component geometry.
